The Canadian Ball Hockey Association (CBHA), which was founded in 1977, has played an integral role in the growth and development of the sport at the international level and every two years in even numbered years the International Street and Ball Hockey Federation (ISBHF) hosts the World Junior (U16, U18 & U20) Ball Hockey Championships.

Players for Junior Team Canada are scouted mainly at the annual National Junior Championships with some advance scouting being done at large provincial (Eastern Regional, Western Regional, and even select High School Tournaments. If required, the program may also scout the Provincial tournaments or Senior National Championships for U20 eligible players.

The World Junior (Under-20 years of age) Championship is held bi-annually on even numbered years with Kralupy, Czech Republic hosting the inaugural 2000 event, Champery, Switzerland hosted in 2002, Martin, Slovakia in 2004, Aosta, Italy in 2006, and St. John’s, Canada in 2008.  The age categories of U-18 and U-16 at the world stage were introduced in 2008 in Zvolen, Slovakia.  2010 World Junior Championships saw Villach, Austria as the host of the U-20, while U18 and U-16 competed in Most, Czech Republic.  All three categories were hosted together during the 2012 in cities Pisek and Strakonice, Czech Republic.
